I can’t decide whether Spring is arriving quickly or slowly this year? It feels like all the blooms and blossoms are out early, but the weather still is tricking us into thinking it’s still winter, requiring thick coats and hiding from the rain. But I’ve been noticing the bluebells peeking up on the verges and of course I’ve been gearing up for my own mini sessions in the bluebell woods near me.

As the end Summer drew to an end I was privileged enough to be invited back to my hometown over in Essex to capture a late morning exploring some beautiful gardens with this sweet family. Just capturing them as they were, playing, investigating, and chasing a cheeky near toddler around was the aim and I think we did pretty well. From my own experience I know how quickly babies change and grow and I like to feel like I managed to capture sweet Caspers personality pretty well!
A very Autunmal Newborn Session in Bristol
The day started with huge black clouds rolling across the sky and my hopes of a beautiful sunny late afternoon session were becoming more bleak by the hour, especially when those clouds erupted on my dog walk and got me absolutely soaked, but we decided to be brave and go ahead with the session, as those newborn moments are so brief and thankfully we were rewarded! By the time I was driving into the Bristol the clouds disappeared and that glorious golden Autumnal sunlight was streaming over the road. By the time I met with my family the shafts of light were streaking through the trees just perfectly and we congratulated ourselves on persevering and being rewarded grandly!
We walked through St.Georges Park which I reminisced about having trodden those same paths as a first time mum when Theo was just one. The hours I’d spent trying to get him to sleep in the pram, the first plays at the park and spending time there as a family. As a city park goes, it’s such a lovely one. We wandered off the path to find a quiet little area (luckily though the rain seemed to have kept a lot of people home!) full of fallen leaves and the light falling just right. As the sun was starting to set we headed back to their home for some sweet baby detail shots and of course to give this dreamy sleepy girl some milk.
The whole session was just perfect, nothing was rushed or awkward and I got to witness two brand new parents experience the magic and joy that is loving on your brand new baby and being obsessed with every detail of them. Definitely something to capture to remember forever.
Late Summer Family Session
Just as the first hints of Autumn were creeping in I met up with The Williams’s for a long explore around Ashton Court, Bristol. I was reminded once more why I love extended family sessions, that extra time to get to know each other, to relax and really try and capture everyone’s personalities. We smelt flowers, jumped over and off tree stumps, explored the gardens and just had a great time soaking up the early morning sunshine.
Lucy & Rupert, an Autumnal outdoor intimate mother and baby session
Over this past year so much has changed and we’ve had to adapt so much in our lives, but the world has kept on turning and changing. So many mothers have welcomed new babies, many without the support system or chance to celebrate this new journey with others. I wanted to offer the chance for some 1:1 mother and baby sessions to help document those fleeting moments in those early years of motherhood.
I met Lucy and Rupert at a favourite park in Bristol for a walk in the glorious Autumnal sunshine where we walked and talked about life in lockdown, becoming a new mother and of course soaked up all those little baby moments. Rupert gave us the best smiles and I really hope that Lucy will treasure these moments we managed to capture!
